The first-ever utility scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Egypt has reached financial close. Developed by AMEA Power, the project is receiving a US$72m debt package from the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
The initiative is an extension of AMEA Power's existing 500MW solar power plant in Aswan Governorate, which has been operational since December 2024. The integration between the solar and BESS elements is financed by IFC's package.
The facility is planned to have a capacity of 300MWh. Operations are expected in July 2025.
