Manitoba Hydro has chosen GE Vernova for the revamp project to be executed at the 479MW Grand Rapids hydropower plant in Canada. The facility, which was built on the Saskatchewan River, in Manitoba, will have its Unit 4-Kaplan runner replaced.
GE Vernova will design, manufacture, and deliver a new runner, which will have over 6 metres in diameter. Its components will be assembled and the final product will be tested at the company's facilities in North America.
Grand Rapids' Units 1, 2, and 3 have already had its runners replaced by GE Vernova 20 years ago. The power plant is operational since 1965.
