Georgia Power has announced the submission of the Vogtle nuclear power plant's Unit 4 documentation for the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The unit has been through all necessary inspections, tests and analyses and is now ready to receive the 103(g) finding from the NRC.
Unit 4 is part of Vogtle's expansion project, which also includes the already operational Unit 3. Technology used in the project is the Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear reactor, rated at approximately 1,100MW each.
An 89km, 500kV transmission line is also covered by the expansion project. It begins at Vogtle and ends at the Thomson Primary substation.
Start-up is expected between late 2023 and early 2024.
