Shell and its partners in the PEL-39 exploration licence offshore Namibia have made public a new light oil discovery via the Jonker-1X exploration well in the Orange Basin.
Northern Ocean’s Deepsea Bollsta semi-submersible drilling rig was used to drill Jonker-1X approximately 270km off the coast. The well reached a total depth of 6,168 metres in 2,210 metres of water.
Drilling activites were initiated in December 2022 and are now complete. The data is currently under assessment, and another appraisal is planned to determine the size and recoverable potential of the discovery.
The PEL-39 licence is owned by a consortium led by Shell (45%) with QatarEnergy (45%) and NAMCOR (10%).
