Equinor has awarded Aibel an engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract for the Hammerfest LNG upgrade project in Melkøya, Norway. The revamp will include onshore compression and electrification and is expected to come online in 2028.
Aibel will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, and installation of two new processing modules, the construction of a new power receiving station and execution of integration works.
Hammerfest LNG will also have its lifespan expanded until 2050 by the upgrade of its systems. Most of the work to be carried out by Aibel is expected to take place between 2024 and 2026.
Engineering and design works have already started.
Hammerfest LNG’s modification project is developed by the Snøhvit partnership, which includes Equinor (36.79%), Petoro (30%), TotalEnergies (18.4%), Netpune Energy (12%), and Wintershall Dea.
