The joint venture (JV) formed by the Australian unit of Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) and Genesis Energy has acquired the rights to develop the 52MW Lauriston solar power project in Canterbury, New Zealand, previously owned by Hive Energy.
The project has already secured all necessary permits and is ready to start construction by the end of the year.
Construction phase will generate over 50 jobs and, once operational, the plant will be able to power about 9,800 homes.
FRV and Genesis’ JV was formed in 2021 with plans to install 500MW of solar generation in New Zealand until 2026.
