ExxonMobil has awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract to Technip Energies. The contractor will carry out FEED works for the operator’s hydrogen project in the Baytown refinery close to Houston, Texas.
According to ExxonMobil, the project will be the largest low-carbon hydrogen production facility in the world, able to produce one billion cubic feet (bcf) of low-carbon hydrogen per day. Ammonia will also be produced, but no numbers related to it have been disclosed yet.
A final investment decision (FID) in the Baytown hydrogen initiative will be taken in 2024, with start-up coming between 2027 and 2028.
