Drilling operations have begun at the Wei-1 well in the Corentyne block offshore Guyana, say developers CGX Energy and Frontera Energy. Corentyne is located approximately 200km off the coast of the Georgetown.
The northern area of the block, where the well is found, recently received approval from the government for its appraisal.
The joint venture responsible for developing the block expects to reach the Wei-1’s total depth of 20,500ft within the next four to five months. Activities will be carried out in a water depth of nearly 1,900ft.
The results provided by the drilling of the well will be essential for CGX Energy and Frontera Energy to decide on the future of the project.
