In construction since September 2019, the 480MW Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm has entered full operations. The plant is France’s first utility-scale offshore wind development.
Saint-Nazaire’s first power was announced last June, with installation of its last turbine following in September 2022.
The offshore wind farm has been placed between 12 and 20km off the coast of the Guérande Peninsula. Eighty GE 160-6MW have been installed on the project’s site, all of them produced in France.
The Loire-Atlantique department will have 20% of its annual electricity demands, equivalent to the needs of 400,000 homes, met by Saint-Nazaire alone.
