Masdar (through Infinity Power, its joint venture with Egyptian company Infinity) and Hassan Allam Utilities have partnered up for a 10GW wind power project in Egypt. Once complete, it will be one of the world’s largest onshore wind farms.
The parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during COP27, currently ongoing in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The plant will be built as part of Egypt’s Green Corridor programme, which intends to expand the country’s renewable energy capacity to 42% of its energy matrix by 2035.
The new will farm will provide 47,790GWh of energy annually, enough to cut the emission of 23.8 million tonnes of CO2 (the same as 9% of Egypt’s current emissions).
