A new hydrocarbon discovery has been achieved by ExxonMobil at the Bavuca South-1 exploration well, part of Block 15 in Angola. Bavuca South-1 is placed approximately 365km off the coast of Luanda.
The company has stated that 30m of high-quality sandstone containing hydrocarbons were found by the Valaris DS-9 drillship.
According to ExxonMobil, this is the 18th discovery made in Block 15 and the first in almost 20 years. Bavuca South-1 well is expected to produce about 40,000 barrels of oil per day.
Block 15 is operated by ExxonMobil through a 36% stake owned by its affiliate Esso Exploration Angola. BP Exploration (24%), Eni (18%), Equinor (12%) and Sonangol P&P (10%) are partners in the Block 15 redevelopment project.
