Centrica and Equinor have signed an agreement regarding the development of low-carbon hydrogen centre at Centrica’s facilities in Easington, East Yorkshire. The plant is expected to produce 1GW of low carbon hydrogen production and 200MW off-taker demand.
About a third of the UK’s whole gas supply enters the territory through Easington, including from Equinor’s stations in Norway.
Easington’s huge blue and green hydrogen potential also comes from it being located close to some of the world’s largest offshore wind farm projects.
The plant’s location is also considered for the carbon capture pipeline of the East Coast Cluster initiative, designed to safely transfer CO2 to under the seafloor.
