QatarEnergy has reported that Shell has been chosen as the company’s second international partner in the North Field South (NFS) expansion project. Shell is now owner of a 9.37% stake in the initiative.
The agreement comes a month after TotalEnergies, also granted a 9.37% share, joined the project. Both the portions came from a total 25% that QatarEnergy, holding the remaining 75% stake, offered to possible partners.
The value of the deal has not been revealed, but QatarEnergy has stated that a third partner for the NFS expansion project is to soon be announced.
The NFS expansion project, part of the North Field expansion project, intends to allow an increase in the field’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) production of 16 million tons per annum (mtpa) through the construction of two new LNG trains.
As a whole, the North Field project, expected to be complete in 2026, will provide an expansion of production of 32mtpa.
