Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Assam Power Distribution Co Ltd (APDCL) for the development of a 1GW floating solar project.
The initiative, carried out through a joint venture between the companies, will include several plants in wetlands across the state of Assam. SJVN, India’s national power producer, will invest US$73m in the project.
The solar modules will cover an area of 4,500ha, resulting in a production capacity of 2,200 million kWh per year.
The developers expect to generate 4,000 jobs over the course of development phases.
