Petrofac is now officially the operator of the Northern Endeavour floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit in Australia. The company was previously selected by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR) to conduct phase one of the vessel’s decommissioning project.
For the past six months, Petrofac’s staff in Perth, Western Australia, has been carrying out preparatory works, like physical inspections, before the FPSO’s disconnection. Now, being operator of Northern Endeavour in the name of the government, the contractor will also look at the vessel’s safety and daily routine.
Decommissioning works at Northern Endeavour, which served the Laminaria and Corraline fields in the Timor Sea, are one of the first of the many decommissioning initiatives to be started in Australia in the coming years.
