The Loan Programs Office of the United States Department of Energy (DOE) has agreed to a US$504.4m loan for the Advanced Clean Energy Storage Project, to be built in Utah. The initiative includes production and storage of green hydrogen.
An amount of 100 metric tonnes of green hydrogen per day will be produced at the site through 220MW of renewable energy. The hydrogen output will be stored in two sprawling salt caverns, each with a storage capacity of 150GWh.
Black & Veatch has been contracted for the project’s EPC services, while Mitsubishi Power will be responsible for the supply and installation of a number of equipment. NAES, meanwhile, holds the O&M contract.
The Advanced Clean Energy Storage Project will provide feedstock to the Intermountain power plant in the same state.
