Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Borealis have signed a US$6.2bn partnership agreement to build the fourth Borouge facility, Borouge 4, at the polyolefin manufacturing complex in Ruwais, UAE.
The partners have approved the final investment agreement for the project, which will produce 1.4m tonnes of polyethene per year. Overall, the new facility will expand the annual production capacity of the Borouge complex to 6.4m tonnes of polyolefins.
The facility will include an ethane cracker with an annual capacity of 1.5m tonnes, two polyethene plants built with Borealis Borstar technology, and a cross-linked polyethene plant.
Borouge 4 will meet rising customer demand in the Middle East, Africa and Asia through differentiated polyolefin solutions in the fields of energy, infrastructure, agriculture and advanced packaging, according to ADNOC.
After the expansion, Borouge is anticipated to become the largest single-site polyolefin complex and will supply feedstock for the TA’ZIZ Industrial Chemical Zone.
