Denmark-headquartered NKT has inaugurated its expanded power cable manufacturing facility in Esposende, Portugal. Following a €50m investment programme, the site will now enter a gradual ramp-up phase to bring the new capacity online over the coming months.
The upgrade includes new production lines, CCV capabilities and enhanced testing facilities. Consequently, the plant has significantly increased its manufacturing capacity for medium and high-voltage power cables across the 1kV to 225kV range. To support this operational growth, NKT has recruited 150 new employees, expanding the local workforce to 580 personnel.
Having acquired the SolidAl business in June 2024, NKT is positioning the Esposende site as a critical component of its European footprint. The enhanced output will directly support ongoing grid modernisation efforts and the wider regional energy transition.
