German energy firm Uniper has signed an agreement to divest its 20% interest in the OPAL gas pipeline to Paris-based investor Hy24. The transaction involves the complete sale of Lubmin-Brandov Assets, the entity holding the co-ownership stake. The remaining 80% is retained by GASCADE Gastransport.
The divestment satisfies the structural remedies mandated by the European Commission following the approval of Uniper’s state aid stabilisation package in December 2022. Furthermore, the acquisition aligns with Hy24's mandate to finance climate-neutral infrastructure through its Clean Hydrogen Infrastructure Fund.
Spanning 470km from northern Germany to the Czech Republic, the OPAL corridor is currently being repurposed for hydrogen transport. The northern section was converted in December 2025, with the southern segment scheduled for completion by late 2030.
