James Fisher and Sons plc (James Fisher), a global provider of specialist marine and energy solutions driving offshore energy forward, is introducing a fleet of 25 new electric compressors to support offshore operators with delivering reliable energy production while reducing the carbon intensity of operations.
The new compressor range combines reliable, high-pressure air supply for offshore well testing, drilling, production and maintenance operations with significantly lower emissions than conventional diesel-powered alternatives, supporting more sustainable offshore energy production.
James Fisher’s team in Norway is leading the development of scalable, lower-carbon solutions for offshore energy production. The 25-strong fleet is being manufactured in Stavanger, turning pioneering innovation into real-world impact across the offshore energy sector.
These include the ST25EL, a high-output air electric air compressor, and the ST10EL, an ultra-compact variant designed for small back deck environments.
The technology has already delivered measurable environmental and commercial benefits offshore. During a recent drilling project, five ST25EL electric compressors reduced CO2 emissions by 160 tonnes compared with conventional, diesel-powered alternatives.
In a separate well drilling campaign, two ST25EL units enabled remote operations, cutting emissions by a further 70 tonnes while delivering cost savings of approximately USD $62,000 through lower fuel consumption and averted carbon tax costs.
These results are backed by an independent lifecycle assessment using an ISO 14040-aligned methodology, which found the ST25EL can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 94% when powered by the Norwegian energy grid, and by 23-25% even when powered by a diesel generator[1].
