In alignment with Egypt's strategy to enhance domestic energy security and curb reliance on imports, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) has partnered with BP to reactivate the Fayoum North-4 well. Located in the Mediterranean Sea, the offshore asset will soon deliver approximately 80MMcf/d of natural gas.
Rather than drilling a completely new well, BP successfully executed a complex sidetrack drilling operation. This advanced engineering approach allowed project teams to safely access fresh geological formations at depths exceeding 3,000m. Consequently, the operator restored output rapidly and cost-effectively, maximising the utility of existing subsea infrastructure.
This development forms part of BP's broader offshore campaign in Egypt, supported by a US$1.5bn investment commitment for the 2026-27 financial year.
