Petrogas E&P Netherlands has selected Worley to deliver the pre-front end engineering and design (pre-FEED) study for the Abeona carbon capture and storage (CCS) project. Located in the Dutch North Sea, the development will establish a permanent CO2 transport and storage solution for hard-to-abate industrial emitters across the region.
The project involves repurposing the depleted Helm and Helder offshore oil fields into underground carbon vaults. Worley's scope includes refining the technical concept, lowering execution risks and delivering cost estimates for subsequent phases.
The development will also reuse an existing 20-inch pipeline to transport emissions from the Port of Amsterdam directly to the offshore reservoirs. Targeting a start-up in late 2030, the Abeona facility will initially provide 30m tonnes of storage capacity, with the potential to scale up to 50m tonnes.
