Bureau Veritas Japan has issued a certificate of conformity for the 315MW Oga-Katagami-Akita offshore wind project. This marks the world's first fixed-bottom development to certify 15MW-class turbine installations for seismic environments, directly accounting for extreme earthquake loads and seabed liquefaction risks.
The facility will deploy 21 Vestas V236-15.0MW turbines. COWI led the foundation design in collaboration with Kajima Corporation and Kobori Research Complex. Furthermore, DEME recently secured an installation contract worth up to €50m via its joint venture with Penta-Ocean Construction.
Offshore operations will commence in the second half of 2027 using the Sea Challenger jack-up vessel, with commercial power generation targeted for June 2028. This major infrastructure project establishes a new technical baseline for deploying large-scale turbines in seismically active regions.
