Maraen Port of Nigg has awarded McLaughlin & Harvey a construction contract for the £30m Eastern Inner Dock Quay (EIDQ) development. The project will add approximately 16,000 square metres of roll-on/roll-off capability at the Highland port.
Crucially, the EIDQ will act as a dedicated load-out facility for high-voltage cables produced at the adjacent Sumitomo Electric plant. Construction preparations are under way, supported by a £10m grant from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) as part of a £500m Scottish government commitment to the offshore wind supply chain.
Following its recent acquisition by Japan's Mitsui, the port is rapidly expanding its deepwater infrastructure. Having already supported the deployment of over 4GW of offshore wind capacity, this capital investment further cements the facility's critical role in advancing Scotland's renewables sector.
