Bechtel has received a limited notice to proceed from Cheniere Energy Partners to commence early engineering and procurement for the Sabine Pass Liquefaction (SPL) Expansion Project in Louisiana, US.
The turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract covers Phase 1 of the development, featuring the new Train 7, a boil-off gas reliquefaction unit and supporting infrastructure. Once operational, Phase 1 will add more than 6mtpa of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity to the terminal.
This milestone advances a major expansion of US LNG export capabilities. Full construction is targeted to begin in early 2027, pending a final investment decision (FID) and required regulatory approvals. The development builds on a nearly two-decade partnership between the two companies, with Bechtel having previously delivered six liquefaction trains at the site.
