New South Wales (NSW) has launched Tender 8, its largest renewable energy tender to date, seeking 2.5GW of new generation capacity. Managed by AusEnergy Service, the targeted infrastructure will supply around one-third of the state's homes and drive NSW towards its 12GW renewable generation target by 2030.
Concurrently, the state opened Tender 9 to secure up to 12GWh of long-duration storage (LDS) capacity. Eligible technologies include pumped hydro and large-scale batteries capable of dispatching energy for at least eight hours, helping to replace retiring coal-fired power stations.
Tender 8 introduces the first Hybrid Generation Long-Term Energy Service Agreement (LTESA) in NSW, allowing developers to combine wind or solar generation with battery storage at a single site. This ensures more flexible electricity dispatch during high-demand periods. Outcomes for both bidding processes are expected by late 2026.
