Danish developer European Energy has reached a positive final investment decision exceeding €200m and commenced construction on a 225.5MW agrivoltaic project near Vizzini in Sicily. The facility is set to become the largest of its kind in Italy and one of the largest across Europe.
Once operational, the plant is expected to generate approximately 405GWh of green electricity annually, sufficient to power more than 135,000 households. The utility-scale development uniquely integrates solar power generation with local agricultural activities, including sheep grazing, biodiversity measures and reforestation initiatives.
European Energy is managing all engineering, procurement and construction activities alongside regional suppliers. The scheme secured long-term revenue visibility via Italy's FER X Transitional Contract for Difference auction scheme, forming part of a broader 513MW portfolio awarded to the company.
