Australian infrastructure contractor GenusPlus has been awarded an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract for the Koolunga battery energy storage system (BESS) in South Australia. Valued at approximately US$110m, the contract covers the balance of plant scope and BESS installation for the 200MW/800MWh facility.
Co-owned by Equis Development and Victoria's State Electricity Commission (SEC), the project features 444 Tesla Megapack units. The system will connect to the state's electricity grid via a 1.2km high-voltage cable linked to the 275kV Brinkworth Substation. Having completed all required planning, environmental approvals and community impact assessments, construction is scheduled to commence shortly, with final completion targeted for September 2027.
