Marking a major milestone for the UK’s clean energy sector, a Final Investment Decision (FID) has been approved for the 20MW West Wales Hydrogen project. Trafigura’s subsidiary, MorGen Energy, will construct the facility on a former oil refinery site in the Celtic Freeport of Milford Haven.
With site work slated to begin in 2026 and commissioning targeted for early 2028, the project team has already tapped Sheffield-based ITM Power to supply the core electrolyser system. Designed to produce 2,000 tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen annually for industrial decarbonization, the project's transition into the execution phase opens up an immediate pipeline of opportunities for domestic manufacturing and local construction contractors.
