Petrobras and its subsidiary Transpetro have signed contracts totaling R$ 2.8 billion to construct 41 new vessels under the "Mar Aberto" fleet expansion program. The package includes five pressurized LPG carriers, 18 barges, and 18 pushers, with construction divided among three domestic shipyards: Estaleiro Rio Grande (Rio Grande do Sul), Bertolini (Amazonas), and Indústria Naval Catarinense (Santa Catarina).
The largest share of the investment, approximately R$ 2.2 billion, has been allocated to Estaleiro Rio Grande for the five gas carriers, comprising three 7,000 m³ vessels and two 14,000 m³ vessels. This acquisition will more than double Transpetro’s gas fleet capacity, reducing reliance on chartered bottoms. The first delivery is scheduled within 33 months, with subsequent vessels arriving every six months to support growing national gas production.
