ILI Group's Learielaw energy storage project in Scotland has been granted planning permission from authorities. The 100MW battery energy storage system (BESS) will be built near Broxburn, West Lothian, and should come online in 2028.
This is the company's first major approval for a planning permission in 2025. With initiatives across North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire and the Highlands, ILI Group secured approval for 350MW of total energy storage capacity in 2024.
The developer currently has a 4.7GW pipeline, of which 2.5GW consists of pumped storage hydro and 2.2GW is formed by utility-scale BESS facilities.
