South America’s energy sector is teeming with activity with ample opportunities for those paying attention. Let’s talk about why this region matters and how the Energy Exports Conference (EEC 2025) – 3–4 June in Aberdeen can help you tap into its potential.
We’ll start off with oil and gas in Guyana, Brazil and Argentina. Guyana’s story is an interesting one. Since pumping its first barrel in 2019, it’s already hitting over 600,000 barrels per day from three offshore projects (FPSOs), with three more on the way. The Stabroek Block alone holds 11.6 billion barrels of oil – and ExxonMobil’s leading the charge. But recent licensing rounds mean new players could jump in soon.
As for Brazil, the country is already a top 10 oil producer, but they’re aiming to pump 5.1 million barrels a day by 2030 (up from 3.4 million in 2024). Nearly $190 billion in oil and gas projects are in the pipeline, with Petrobras, Equinor, and Shell leading the way, especially in the pre-salt Santos Basin and the Equatorial Margin.
Argentina, on the other hand, is betting big on LNG. They’re planning export terminals to monetise the Vaca Muerta shale play, which is one of the largest shale reserves globally. Companies like Pan American Energy (PAE) and YPF are pushing hard to turn Argentina into a global LNG supplier.
In the cleantech space, Brazil’s energy mix is 80% renewables already (thanks to its massive hydropower resources), but they’re doubling down on wind, solar, and biofuels. They’re the world’s #2 biofuels producer, and new laws are pushing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and green hydrogen.
Chile is throwing $11 billion into battery storage (BESS) by 2027 to back its solar/wind projects. Uruguay is also in the game, focusing on wind and eFuels (synthetic fuels made from mixing green hydrogen with carbon to create a greener hydrocarbon fuel).
Decommissioning is another huge opportunity, especially in Brazil. Petrobras plans to decommission 10 floating platforms by 2029 – a massive opening for companies with expertise in safe, sustainable dismantling. If your business specialises in this, Brazil is your next market.
Why EEC 2025? EEC is where energy leaders from around the world, including South America, operators, supply chains and policymakers gather to discuss the latest in the energy industry while also meeting with supply chain companies from the UK and beyond, ready to deploy their expertise globally to help build energy projects.
Come to EEC 2025 to:
- Learn more about South America’s (among other regions!) energy projects and meet some of their decision-makers.
- Explore partnerships in decommissioning, offshore tech, e-fuels or oil & gas.
Join us in Aberdeen this June to find your foothold.
