Aramco has firmed a shareholder agreement with Linde and SLB for the construction of a carbon capture and storage (CCS) hub in Saudi Arabia. The complex is planned to feature a initial storage capacity of nine million metric tonnes per annum (mmtpa).
According to the agreement, Aramco will hold 60% of the project, which will help it to fulfill its net zero goals. The remaining 40% will be equally split between Linde and SLB.
The phased development should be one of the largest of its kind in the world, said Aramco. Completion of the hub's first phase is scheduled for 2027, when the facility will receive carbon dioxide from three gas plants and other industrial sources owned by Aramco.
