Santos and its partners in the Darwin LNG project have granted a new loan worth US$800m. According to the company, with this facility, the project is now well-funded to complete the life extension works scheduled for 2025.
The Darwin LNG initiative intends to expand production capacity at the Darwin liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Wickham Point, Australia. The plant started production in 2006 with a capacity of 3.7 million metric tonnes per year (mmtpa).
Initially, Darwin LNG was fed by the Bayu-Undan field in Timor-Leste. After a final investment decision (FID) on the Barossa gas field development, which is scheduled to reach operations in 2025, the company needed to extend Darwin's operational life for approximately 20 years.
