Exhibit | WindEnergy Hamburg | EIC

Why Germany?

The power of wind is taking the global energy transition scene by storm. With the mature onshore wind market continuing to dominate as one of the cheapest and fastest sources of energy, the burgeoning offshore wind market is also flourishing as the leading trend in renewable energy, thanks to its higher power generation potential. Major energy players and oil and gas companies are entering both markets, with the likes of decarbonisation and new technologies such as green hydrogen and carbon capture pushing its growth even further.

In Europe in particular, wind energy accounts for 16% of its energy generation. The EU recently increased its 2030 emission reduction target to ‘at least 55%’ as part of its Fit-for-55 Package. As such, the region now needs up to 452GW of wind energy capacity by 2030 - three times the 179GW currently installed. Wind energy in Europe faces the challenge of permitting difficulties, however innovative projects such as large-scale energy islands, green hydrogen complexes and floating wind technology are on the rise, creating even more opportunities here in the near future.
