About this event

The EIC is happy to announce the Breakfast in Rio - Renewables and Offshore Wind Project Opportunities with EDF Renewables, Neoenergia and WEG

EDF Renewables, a subsidiary of the EDF Group, is a global leader in renewable energy, dedicated to the development and construction of sustainable projects. It focuses on wind and solar energy projects.
In August 2023, EDF Renewables signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Ceará to boost the productive chain of the H2V industry in the state, aiming to achieve the company's goal of reaching 3 GW of installed electrolyzers worldwide by 2030.
Recently, the company initiated operations in the first phase of the Serra do Seridó Wind Farm, in the northeastern region of Brazil. After the completion of the second phase, it is estimated that the Park will be responsible for avoiding 400,000 tons of CO2 annually.
In Brazil, the company has a total capacity of 1.8 GW in projects, helping to avoid more than 1 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

Neoenergia, a subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group in Brazil, is a leading player in the national energy market, known for its innovative projects and commitment to sustainability. The company operates in solar, wind (onshore), hydro, and T&D sectors.
Recently, Neoenergia partnered with Comerc Energia to establish a joint venture focused on developing distributed generation photovoltaic plants across Bahia, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco, and the Federal District, with a total investment of around US$100 million.
Moreover, Neoenergia inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Rio Grande do Norte to explore offshore wind generation in the state's coastal region. This marks Neoenergia's fourth MoU for offshore wind in Brazil.
Currently, Neoenergia boasts nearly 5GW of installed generation capacity, primarily from renewable sources, with plans to add an additional 5.1GW through new solar and wind parks in Brazil.

WEG focuses on producing top-tier products and solutions. Recently, it completed a significant acquisition, investing $400 million to acquire Regal Rexnord’s industrial electric motors and generators business in the US.
This acquisition offers key advantages, including integration with operations in Mexico, China, India, and Europe, along with increased production capacity in the US and Europe. It also enhances global outreach, strengthens WEG's North American presence with the Marathon brand, secures access to crucial OEMs, and explores new markets such as China and Southeast Asia.
In September 2023, Petrobras and WEG announced a partnership to develop a 7MW onshore wind turbine, Brazil's largest wind turbine project. This project, towering at 220 meters and weighing 1,830 tonnes, is underway with a $26 million (R$130 million) investment, and full-scale manufacturing is slated to commence in 2025.
Furthermore, in December 2023, WEG and Statkraft signed a contract for the first-ever supply of the 7MW wind turbine to the Brotas de Macaúbas wind complex in Bahia. Equipment delivery is anticipated in the second half of 2024.
