Scaling Up Energy Storage in the UK
06 Feb 2020, Marcliffe Hotel and Spa, Aberdeen
Open to: All companies
As the energy landscape is changing, the industry is building a cleaner, more sustainable and more flexible electricity grid. With continued decrease in prices and growing advancement of technologies, energy storage is set to be a key sector in the global energy industry.
EIC, along with supporting partners Opportunity North East (ONE), invites some of the leading developers in the sector to provide attendees with an overview of their current plans and opportunities.
Forecasts suggest that energy storage technologies will reach an installed capacity of 158GWh in 2024 and up to 942GW by 2040, excluding pumped hydro storage projects. This represents a US$620bn investment and opportunity across two decades, driven by an increased need for flexibility and balancing services on the grid, growing demand from distributed sources such as electric vehicles as well as the ongoing integration of renewable energy into the energy system.
While the majority of this growth is expected to come from lithium-ion battery systems, significant development is also anticipated in other technologies, such as cryogenic energy storage and vanadium redox flow batteries.
This event will hear from key developers in this market, who will focus on:
- highlighting the current state of the energy storage market
- future demand and opportunities for the supply chain
- how the supply chain can engage with developers and any supply chain requirements
- advances in technology and outlook for future developments
- the role of energy storage in the energy transition
