The EIC is happy to announce the Breakfast in Rio: Offshore Opportunities with Hanwha, Helix Energy Solutions and Ecovix.
Hanwha is a global South Korean group delivering foundational systems across a broad range of industries. Within its Energy and Maritime Solutions division, the group operates across the entire energy value chain, building integrated solutions that ensure reliable supply and meet rising demand. Through Hanwha Ocean, its shipbuilding and offshore arm, the group has been expanding its presence in Brazil's offshore energy sector, positioning itself as a full turnkey solution provider under the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and operation (EPCIO) model.
The company has made significant strides in Brazil in recent years. In September 2025, the ultra-deepwater drillship Tidal Action, owned by Hanwha Ocean and operated by Hanwha Drilling, began its maiden contract with Petrobras at the Roncador field in the Campos Basin, under a 30-month agreement worth approximately US$500m and managed by Brazilian contractor Constellation. The Tidal Action is capable of drilling in water depths of up to 3.6km. In parallel, the group is expanding its FPSO ambitions in the country, having participated in Petrobras' P-86 FPSO tender as the sole South Korean bidder, and delivered the FPSO P-79, which achieved its first oil offloading for Petrobras at the Búzios field in the Santos Basin in June 2026.
Helix Energy Solutions is an international offshore energy services company specialising in well intervention, robotics and full-field decommissioning operations. In 2024, the company strengthened its long-standing presence in Brazil after securing a new three-year vessel charter and service contracts, worth US$786m, with Petrobras for the riser-based well intervention vessels Siem Helix 1 and Siem Helix 2, building on a track record in the Santos and Campos basins that includes over 100 well interventions by Siem Helix 2 since 2017.
In 2025, the company transitioned the Q7000 semi-submersible well intervention vessel to Brazil under a 400-day contract with Shell, bringing its total to three vessels on long-term contract in the country. Reporting on its full-year 2025 results, Helix confirmed that both Siem Helix vessels are operating under Petrobras contracts at higher rates, while the Q7000 achieved 100% utilisation for Shell, reinforcing Brazil as one of the company's strongest-performing markets.
Ecovix is a Brazilian company that has been designing and building structures for ocean operations since 2010. It is responsible for the Estaleiro Rio Grande (Rio Grande Shipyard), located in the city of Rio Grande, Rio Grande do Sul, home to the largest dry dock in the country. The company's scope of work spans the construction of vessels, hulls and modules for oil platforms, port activities including vessel berthing and cargo handling, repairs to oil platforms and ships, and steel processing for the metal-mechanical industry.
