About this event
The EIC is thrilled to announce the Breakfast in Rio: Project Opportunities with SBM Offshore, BW Energy and Ocean Installer.
SBM Offshore is a Dutch offshore energy company specialising in the design, supply, installation, operation and life extension of floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels for the offshore energy industry. Its fleet comprises 16 units operating globally, including 15 FPSOs and one semi-submersible unit, spanning key markets such as Brazil, Guyana and West Africa.
SBM Offshore's most significant recent milestone in Brazil came in May 2026, when the company was awarded two contracts by Petrobras, valued at approximately US$7.8bn, to design, build and operate the FPSOs SEAP-I (P-81) and SEAP-II (P-87) for the Sergipe-Alagoas Deepwater (SEAP) project, one of Petrobras' largest deepwater developments planned for this decade. The consortia led by Petrobras will own the FPSOs, while SBM Offshore will operate them for an initial period of 6.5 years under separate operations and maintenance (O&M) contracts. Based on SBM Offshore's Fast4Ward programme, each unit will be designed to produce 120,000bbl/d of oil, operating approximately 100km off the coast at a water depth of around 2,500m, with delivery expected in 2030 and 2031.
BW Energy is a Norwegian growth-focused oil and gas company targeting proven offshore reservoirs through low-risk, phased developments, with assets in Brazil, Gabon and Namibia. In Brazil, the company operates three assets: the producing Golfinho field, the Maromba development and the pre-development Golfinho Cluster discoveries. Its differentiated strategy centres on repurposing existing production infrastructure to reduce time to first oil and lower investment costs compared with traditional offshore developments.
BW Energy's key growth project in Brazil is the Maromba development in the Campos Basin, which reached final investment decision (FID) in May 2025. BW Energy holds a 95% interest in the project, with the remaining 5% held by Magma Oil & Gas. The project targets 123 million barrels of 2P reserves, with first oil expected by late 2027 and plateau production of around 60,000bbl/d, a milestone that is expected to more than double the company's total net production by 2028. The development combines a converted drilling jack-up wellhead platform with the refurbished FPSO BW Maromba (formerly the FPSO Polvo). In September 2025, the company completed a US$365m project finance facility to fund the FPSO's refurbishment and redeployment, and by early 2026 the wellhead platform had arrived at the yard to begin conversion work.
Ocean Installer is a Norwegian marine and subsea construction company specialising in offshore installation services, delivering full engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) solutions across subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF), mooring, decommissioning and offshore renewables. Founded in 2011 and part of the Moreld Group since 2024, the company has over 15 years of experience delivering large and complex subsea projects worldwide, and is headquartered in Stavanger with regional offices in Oslo, Aberdeen, Dubai and Rio de Janeiro.
In June 2026, Ocean Installer marked its entry into the Brazilian market, the world's largest for subsea projects, after being awarded its first contract in the country by Equinor for the well tie-in scope of the Bacalhau project. Located in the pre-salt Santos Basin at a water depth of approximately 2,100m, Bacalhau is Equinor's largest international offshore development. The scope covers the installation of rigid well jumpers between flowlines and subsea trees, flying leads installation and associated pre-commissioning across numerous wells, spanning a 4.5-year period with options for extension and rigid jumper fabrication. The first offshore campaign is planned for 2027. In parallel with the award, Ocean Installer established a Brazilian entity and onboarded its first local employees, laying the foundation for a permanent and scalable local presence in the country.
