Exploring Challenges, Opportunities, and Cross-Sector Synergies in the UK Energy Landscape
The Energy Industries Council (EIC) invites you to join us for a dedicated event focused on the evolving landscape of decommissioning across the energy industry. This event will bring together experts and stakeholders from multiple sectors to explore cross-sector learnings, pipeline opportunities, and real business prospects shaping the future of decommissioning in the UK.
Decommissioning represents a vital and growing segment of the global energy supply chain. The UKCS dominates forecasted activity, currently exceeding an annual spend of $2.5 billion and with an estimated total value of £27 billion before 2032.
The nuclear sector is entering a critical phase, with EDF anticipating that all seven AGR stations will have ended power generation and reached various stages of decommissioning by 2030. Globally, nuclear decommissioning is valued at approximately $120 billion, $89 billion of which has already been awarded.
Meanwhile, the wind sector is approaching a significant transition point. In the UK, over 1.6GW of onshore wind capacity is now exceeding 20 years in operation, including 1GW aged between 20–24 years. From January 2026, 1200 turbines across the UK will have operated for 25 years, showing a substantial market for onshore wind farm decommissioning is emerging over the coming decade.
This event will provide critical insight into the key energy markets driving decommissioning activity, spotlighting new business opportunities in oil and gas, nuclear, and wind. While recognising that each decommissioning programme is shaped by unique technical and regulatory circumstances, our discussions will emphasise cross-sector synergies including shared themes of regulation, skills development, collaboration, and technology transfer.
Join us to gain a deeper understanding of the evolving decommissioning landscape, discover new commercial opportunities, and connect with industry leaders shaping the next chapter of the UK’s energy transition.
