About this event

Breakfast in Rio: Upstream Opportunities with Equinor and McDermott

Equinor is one of the leading international energy companies, with over two decades of presence in Brazil, where it focuses strategic investments on large-scale projects in the Santos and Campos basins.

In 2025, one of the highlights is the Bacalhau project, which reached significant milestones with the arrival of the FPSO at the field in February and the granting of the operating licence in May. The FPSO, with a production capacity of up to 220k bbl/d, incorporates technologies that reduce emissions to 9kg of CO2 per barrel. First oil is expected later this year.

In the Raia project (formerly BM-C-33), in the Campos Basin, Equinor is also making significant progress. Following ANP’s approval in June of the unification of the Raia Manta and Raia Pintada fields, the company is preparing to develop one of the largest non-associated gas reserves in the pre-salt, with estimated production of up to 16m m³/day starting in 2028. With most contracts signed and environmental studies in their final phase, Equinor is consolidating its position as one of the country’s leading oil and gas operators, combining technical excellence with robust investments in major offshore projects.

With a long-standing track record in developing offshore projects in Brazil, McDermott continues to strengthen its presence in the country and across South America. Recently, the company was awarded a contract by BRAVA Energia for an integrated campaign in the Papa-Terra fields, located in the Campos Basin, and Atlanta, in the Santos Basin.

The contract, valued between US$1m and US$50m, covers the transportation and installation of flexible lines, umbilicals and subsea equipment for four new wells, as well as pre-commissioning services and onshore support.

McDermott has a well-established history in Brazil, including the previous delivery of the TLWP platform in the Papa-Terra field, the first floating production system with a dry tree installed in Brazil and also the first of its kind in South America. With expertise in brownfield solutions, robust marine capabilities and an integrated engineering and construction model, the company has positioned itself as a strategic player for new investments in Brazil’s offshore sector.
