About this event
North East Scotland is uniquely positioned to lead the way in Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), building on its deep energy heritage, skilled workforce and robust infrastructure. This masterclass is designed to help supply chain companies in the region explore how they can diversify, grow and contribute to a low-carbon future through CCUS.
The UK and Scottish governments have committed substantial investment to this sector, including £200 million for the Acorn Project in Aberdeenshire, part of a wider £9.4 billion UK-wide initiative to accelerate carbon capture technologies. These investments are not only driving industrial renewal but also positioning the UK as a global leader in clean energy.
At the heart of Scotland’s CCUS ambitions is the Acorn Project, located at the St Fergus gas terminal. As a cornerstone of The Scottish Cluster, it aims to capture and store up to 5 million tonnes of CO2 annually by 2030. Supporting this effort is the SCO2T Connect Pipeline, a repurposed 175-mile infrastructure linking Grangemouth to St Fergus, enabling large-scale CO2 transport and storage.
The Scottish Government has made its position clear, CCUS is ‘a necessity, not an option’ for achieving net zero. It’s embedded within broader strategies like the Scottish Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (SIETF) and the Green Industrial Strategy, which promote decarbonisation alongside economic growth.
Whether your business is already active in CCUS or just beginning to explore its potential, this masterclass aims to provide the knowledge, connections and strategic direction needed to move forward in this fast-growing sector.
