About this event
Many EIC members, such as KBR, Kent, Fluor and McDermott are also members of the UK engineering contractor’s association, BCECA. BCECA is holding its annual virtual conference, The Engineering Transformation – Making It a Reality II, on the 2nd of October, where the focus will be on energy transition projects.
The conference is an important opportunity for contractors, their clients and the supply chain to come together to look at the issues impacting UK energy transition projects, particularly in the carbon capture and hydrogen arena. There will be speakers from companies including KBR, Bechtel, the HSE, Petrofac, Johnson Matthey, Honeywell UOP, Kent and Costain.
The conference is on-line and there is no charge for the day thanks to BCECA and its sponsors. BCECA has broad participation at the conference and welcomes the attendance of EIC members to join the debate.
You can register for the event hereThe conference includes an introduction by Lord Ravensdale, who will cover the recent political changes in the UK and the current policy and legislative framework. He will discuss the planning and infrastructure bill, the “Great British” energy bill, and the sustainable aviation fuel bill. There can be no doubts about the UK’s ambitions to achieve a decarbonised electricity grid by 2030 and the BCECA conference looks at some of the challenges in getting there quickly.
In the afternoon keynote address John Fotherby will give his views on the contracting arrangements being used to build the facilities and he will argue that collaborative contracting models are needed to make these projects a success. This is contrary to many of the procurement models so far adopted for offshore windfarms and other energy transition projects, which are adversarial and demonstrably unsuitable in the context of the business case justifying the investment and the volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous conditions under which energy transition projects are undertaken. John’s keynote is followed by a discussion panel of industry experts considering this viewpoint.
