About this event
About the e-vent:
The EIC’s Energy Storage Webinar will provide participants with a market update for the energy storage sector with a focus on UK and European developments.
Despite recent impacts on its supply chain and project development due to the Covid-19 crisis, the energy storage sector is expected to continue its growth trajectory into the next decades.
Recent industry estimates suggest that battery energy storage capacity could reach 89GW by 2040 across five countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. The UK alone boasts an impressive project pipeline of over 10GW in storage capacity.
While the majority of the attention has been on trends and growth in the battery storage sector, other expanding and emerging technologies are increasingly gaining market interest. These include long-duration technologies, such as Highview Power’s liquified air energy storage system (LAES) that is due to be installed in a 250MW project in Greater Manchester, as well as emerging systems such as zinc-air batteries and thermal battery solutions. With the emphasis now on ‘green recovery’ as a response to the economic impacts of the Covid-19 situation, a further push for renewable energy can be expected, further promoting the need for energy storage installations to continue to provide flexibility and balancing services to countries’ grid systems. Thus, despite an initial anticipated slowdown in installations and project activities in 2020, the sectors growth is expected to shift to and continue in 2021 and the coming years.
Participants will hear from key industry players on their project activities and portfolios, potential challenges faced during the Covid-19 crisis, supply chain experiences and the sector’s latest technologies.
