The EIC is happy to announce the Macaé Breakfast: Business Opportunities with MODEC and Prysmian.
For over 55 years, MODEC has been a leading provider of solutions in the oil and gas sector, with operations in more than 15 countries. The company has a strong track record in Brazil, having delivered 17 floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels in the country. As a concrete example of its success in Brazilian waters, the Bacalhau FPSO achieved its first oil milestone on 15 October 2025, marking MODEC's 17th FPSO delivered to the country and its first project with Equinor. The company currently has one more unit under construction: the Raia FPSO, destined for the Raia Manta and Raia Pintada fields in the pre-salt Campos Basin, also operated by Equinor, with delivery anticipated in 2027.
In 2024, MODEC secured the front end engineering and design (FEED) contract for the Gato do Mato FPSO as part of Shell's Orca project, located at the BM-S-54 and Sul de Gato do Mato blocks within the Santos Basin. The company's scope of work will encompass hull design and all related topside installations. In March 2025, Shell reached final investment decision (FID) for the referred project, and MODEC subsequently signed a 20-year operations and maintenance (O&M) agreement. Notably, the Bacalhau FPSO also received the Approval in Principle (AiP) for Abate Notation from DNV, a world's first new built vessel to achieve the recognition, reflecting a comprehensive assessment of its greenhouse gas emissions abatement measures and positioning it at the forefront of low-carbon production, with a capacity of 220,000bbl/d of oil, for operation in water depths of approximately 2,050m.
Prysmian is a global leader in the cable systems industry, with a historic presence in Brazil dating back to 1929. A pioneer in the sector, the company has established itself as a key supplier for the energy, telecommunications and oil and gas segments. Prysmian operates a robust manufacturing footprint comprising seven factories strategically located in Santo André (SP), Sorocaba (SP), Vila Velha (ES), Cariacica (ES) and Joinville (SC), with installed capacity to produce approximately 60,000 tonnes of cables per year.
In July 2021, the company announced a contract worth approximately BRL$570m with Petrobras for the supply of 350km of high-performance electro-hydraulic umbilicals for deepwater applications, destined for brownfield and greenfield projects in Brazil. Shortly after, in August the same year, Prysmian secured a second agreement with Petrobras, worth approximately BRL$405m, to deliver an additional 200km of umbilicals. More recently, in late 2023, the company signed a new contract worth approximately BRL$530m to supply 170km of electro-hydraulic umbilicals to Petrobras, with deliveries scheduled from 2024 to 2027.
