The Programme

The EIC Training Programme is a series of one and four day workshops, aimed at graduates and others new to the industry, enabling attendees to gain hands-on experience in various disciplines.  The one day workshops take the form of presentations, site tours, demonstrations and networking events, and are held on the premises of host manufacturing companies who are key players in the industry and bring together UK supply chain companies and contractors.  In addition, there are workshops covering Hazardous Area Equipment & the ATEX Directive and the Pressure Equipment Directive & UK Pressure Systems Safety Regulations.

The workshops are intended to provide a broad based familiarisation with the products: components, features, engineering, operation and maintenance, performance and testing concepts. The factory tour is for the attendees’ appreciation and understanding of the manufacturing process, assembly and testing involved in the delivery of the finished product.

Graduates are the future life blood of our industry, and this initiative both educates and creates awareness of the benefits of a career in the Energy Sector. The EIC believes that the programme, now in its fourth successful year, encourages graduate retention, giving an appreciation of the equipment they may be procuring / engineering but may not have seen. Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis and initially limited to two per company.

The four-day workshops are class room based covering core skills such as Project Management and Inspection & Expediting.  Experienced industry instructors use role-play, group discussion and assignments to teach groups of engineers and other personnel who need that basic understanding to be more effective in their workplace and those considering a career in one of these disciplines.

Objectives and Benefits

A general understanding and technical awareness of :

  • The working of products
  • Engineering
  • Operations
  • Maintenance systems & functions requirements
  • The underlining engineering principles from which products are designed.

Graduates’ Feedback

: “. . . the workshops provide a superb insight into a variety of different energy related engineering disciplines . . . will be sure to recommend them to graduates in future, because I believe they too will be grateful to gain a solid rudimentary appreciation of another facet of engineering . . .” Phil Jarvis, Hydratight

“. . . The training days have only served to increase my enthusiasm for my career in the oil and gas sector . . . it is clear that EIC has put a lot of time and effort into organising the workshops.” Gary Dicker, WorleyParsons

Supplier feedback

Feedback gained from both presenters and participants informs us that this has been a very worthwhile and beneficial experience for everyone taking part”. Neil Bradbury, Chloride Power Protection
