First Solar Japan and Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions have announced the start of construction on two solar projects in Japan.
The projects, which are located in Tochigi Prefecture, Nasu area of Eastern Japan, include the Yatsubo solar power plant and the Ikeda solar power plant.
Expected to start operating from April 2023, the two plants will add a total of 60MW of solar energy capacity to the country’s electricity grid.
Under a 20-year feed-in-tariff, the electricity generated by the solar projects will be sold to TEPCO Power.
The projects will be powered by First Solar’s photovoltaic (PV) modules, which will be designed and developed at the company’s R&D centres in California and Ohio.
