The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has approved a support of US$47.5m to ENGIE’s green hydrogen and ammonia project in Pilbara, Western Australia. The amount will be granted through the agency’s Hydrogen Deployment Funding Road.
The initiative, also called Yuri, will involve the construction and installation of a 10MW electrolyser, an 18MW photovoltaic (PV) plant and an 8MW/5MWh lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS).
The Pilbara facility is expected to be Australia’s largest electrolyser. Annual production capacity will cross over 600 tonnes of green hydrogen, with total investment calculated at US$87m.
Yuri’s feasibility studies also received support from ARENA, which provided US$995,000 to the work. Green hydrogen output will be entirely delivered to Yara Pilbara Fertilisers.
