The staff of the United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has issued a final environmental impact statement (EIS) regarding the Commonwealth LNG project. To be built in Louisiana, the facility now awaits the commission’s final decision.
FERC has stated that the Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of Energy, the Coast Guard, the Environmental Protection Agency, among others, were also involved in the works.
Commonwealth LNG, the developer in case, intends to site, build and operate a natural gas liquefaction (LNG) export terminal in Cameron Parish. An associated gas pipeline network is also under plans.
The terminal will have six gas pre-treatment trains with a combined capacity of 8.4 million metric tons per annum (Mtpa).
FERC’s final approval for the Commonwealth LNG project is expected late this year. A final investment decision (FID) should be taken in the second half of 2023, with start-up scheduled for 2026.
