Deutsche ReGas has contracted TotalEnergies for the installation and operation of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at the port of Lubmin, Germany. The plan is to start operations in December 2022.
The liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal to which the FSRU will be connected will be able to transport 4.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas.
The Lubmin terminal will also receive LNG tankers with capacity of up to 170,000 cubic metres.
Deutsche ReGas has stated that the terminal could reach up to 15 billion cubic metres of gas annually. This would be possible through the connection of its FSRU to underwater pipelines and the addition of two new units.
At the moment, there are no operational LNG terminals (either floating or onshore) in Germany.
